Smith & Nephew Bactigras Dressing 100mm x 100mm 1 Unit

Bactigras is a sterile, medicated paraffin gauze dressing impregnated with chlorhexidine antiseptic. This 100 x 100 mm single-use dressing is designed to provide non-adherent wound contact, gentle protection and local antiseptic action for superficial burns, donor sites and minor wounds. Easy to apply and ideal for clinical or home first aid kits.

Key benefits

  • Antiseptic action: impregnated with chlorhexidine to help reduce surface microbial contamination.
  • Non-adherent paraffin gauze: minimizes trauma at dressing changes and supports gentle wound healing.
  • Versatile use: suitable for burns, donor sites, abrasions and minor surgical wounds.
  • Sterile, single-use 100 x 100 mm pad: convenient size for common wound sites.
  • Compatible with secondary dressings: use under absorbent pads or bandages for exuding wounds.
Ingredients and Materials

Bactigras is a sterile paraffin-impregnated gauze dressing medicated with chlorhexidine (commonly provided at ~0.5% w/w) in a soft paraffin base. Materials: sterile woven gauze, soft paraffin/petroleum jelly vehicle and chlorhexidine antiseptic. Packaged as a single sterile unit, 100 mm x 100 mm.

How to Use
  1. Wash hands and prepare a clean working area. Cleanse the wound according to local protocol and pat dry.
  2. Open the sterile pack. Apply the Bactigras dressing with the medicated/paraffin surface directly onto the wound (contact side against wound).
  3. Secure with an appropriate secondary dressing or bandage. For low-exuding wounds, Bactigras may remain in place until clinically indicated to change (often 24 72 hours) or per clinician advice.
  4. Do not reuse. Dispose of used dressings safely.
  5. Seek professional medical advice for deep, heavily exuding or infected wounds.
Who It s For

Designed for patients requiring a sterile antiseptic contact dressing: superficial burns, donor sites, minor surgical wounds, abrasions and other low to moderate exuding wounds. Suitable for clinical use by healthcare professionals and for home first aid when directed. Not intended for use on deep cavities or heavily exuding/necrotic wounds without clinician oversight.

Caution & Storage

Cautions: For external use only. Do not use if there is a known hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine, paraffin or any component of the dressing. Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes. Not recommended for deep, tunnelling wounds or heavily exuding wounds without specialist advice. Discontinue and seek medical advice if signs of allergic reaction or increased infection occur.

Storage: Store in original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Recommended storage below 25 C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use if the sterile pack is damaged or opened.

For professional advice on wound management or if signs of infection develop, consult a healthcare professional. Product information may vary by region; always follow local labelling and clinical guidance.
