1. Perform hand hygiene and use aseptic technique. Prepare supplies (gloves, antiseptic, flush, dressing).

4. Open the sterile package and assemble; stabilize the vein and insert the catheter/needle at a shallow angle until flashback is observed.
5. Advance the catheter into the vein, withdraw the introducer needle, and dispose of the needle in a sharps container.
