Incentive Spirometer 3-Ball Respiratory Exerciser

The Incentive Spirometer 3-Ball Respiratory Exerciser is a lightweight, reusable breathing device designed to encourage deep inhalation, improve lung expansion and support pulmonary recovery after surgery, illness or prolonged inactivity. Clinically used for post-op care, COPD management, physiotherapy and home lung rehabilitation, this easy-to-use 3-ball spirometer helps patients practice controlled deep breathing and track inspiratory effort with visible ball indicators.

Key Benefits

  • Promotes deep-breathing and full lung expansion to reduce risk of atelectasis and support pulmonary recovery.
  • Three-ball visual indicator provides graduated inspiratory targets for progressive lung training.
  • Compact, portable and reusable—ideal for hospital, clinic and home-care respiratory therapy.
  • Simple, non-invasive design suitable for guided post-op breathing exercises and COPD support.
  • Durable materials and clear markings for easy monitoring and patient compliance tracking.
Ingredients and Materials

Constructed from medical-grade, injection-molded plastics (commonly ABS or polypropylene) with lightweight low-density polyethylene or acrylic indicator balls. Includes a removable silicone or PVC mouthpiece and flexible tubing. Materials are BPA-free where specified and designed for repeated use with regular cleaning. Check product label for exact material specifications and compliance certifications.

How to Use

Follow these general steps for effective incentive spirometer use (always follow your healthcare professional's specific instructions):

  1. Sit upright or propped at 45 degrees. Hold the spirometer vertically.
  2. Exhale normally, then place the mouthpiece in your mouth and seal lips around it.
  3. Inhale slowly and deeply through the mouthpiece to raise the balls. Aim to elevate the target ball indicated by your therapist.
  4. Hold your breath for 3–5 seconds to maintain lung inflation, then remove the mouthpiece and exhale slowly.
  5. Repeat 8–10 breaths per session, multiple times daily as prescribed. Start with lower ball targets and progress as lung capacity improves.

Use caution if you feel dizzy or short of breath—stop and consult your clinician.

Who It’s For

Appropriate for adults and older adolescents who require post-operative pulmonary care, lung rehabilitation after pneumonia or respiratory infections, COPD maintenance, smokers seeking lung fitness, and patients prescribed deep-breathing physiotherapy. Also useful for respiratory therapists, rehabilitation clinics and home-care programs. Not intended as a diagnostic spirometer—used for inspiratory training and incentive breathing exercises.

Caution & Storage

Safety and storage guidance:

  • Consult a healthcare professional before use if you have severe respiratory distress, recent thoracic surgery, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or other serious cardiopulmonary conditions.
  • Not a replacement for medical evaluation or emergency treatment. If you experience chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or dizziness, stop and seek immediate medical help.
  • Clean mouthpiece and tubing after each use with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly and air dry. Replace disposable mouthpieces as recommended.
  • Do not autoclave unless the product label states it is autoclavable. Store the spirometer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme heat.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Use as directed for single-patient use unless appropriately disinfected for multi-patient use per facility protocols.

Note: Product features, materials and cleaning instructions may vary by manufacturer. Always follow the specific product insert and your clinician's guidance for respiratory exercises and pulmonary rehabilitation.
