Always perform a patch test and strand test before full application. Follow the mixing ratio recommended by your chosen hair colour or lightener manufacturer (common ratios include 1:1 or 1:2 developer:colour depending on product). Wear gloves and protective clothing:

1. Mix developer and colour/bleach thoroughly in a non-metallic bowl.
2. Apply to dry, unwashed hair as directed by the colour product manufacturer.
3. Process according to product instructions — typical processing times range 20–45 minutes depending on desired lift and hair condition.
4. Rinse thoroughly, shampoo and condition. Use a neutralising or bonding aftercare product if required.
