Each Safecare Syphilis device is a lateral flow immunoassay cassette containing immobilised antigens, reagents and a nitrocellulose membrane. Typical kit contents (may vary by pack):

• 10 x rapid syphilis test cassettes (single-use)
• 1 x buffer solution bottle
• 10 x disposable lancets
• 10 x capillary pipettes or droppers
• 10 x alcohol swabs and 10 x adhesive plasters
• Instruction leaflet and quality control card

Note: Contents can vary by distributor. The device detects antibodies to Treponema pallidum (syphilis) — designed for qualitative screening. Always check the box for included accessories and the lot/expiry date before use.

1. Prepare: Wash hands and open a test cassette on a clean surface. Check expiry date.
2. Collect sample: Clean the fingertip with an alcohol swab, use a sterile lancet to obtain a fingerstick blood drop, collect the required volume with the supplied capillary tube or pipette.
3. Apply sample: Add the specified number of blood drops to the sample well on the cassette, then add the recommended number of buffer drops.
4. Wait & read: Allow the test to develop for 10–15 minutes. Read results within the time window indicated in the instructions. One control line confirms a valid test; a second test line indicates a reactive result.
5. Aftercare: Dispose of the used cassette and consumables as biohazardous waste. Wash hands and provide counselling or referral if needed.

Follow the included instruction leaflet for exact sample volumes, buffer drops, and timing. Misuse or reading outside the recommended window may produce incorrect results.

Safecare Syphilis Devices are intended for:

• Adults seeking convenient home screening for syphilis.
• Primary care clinics, sexual health clinics and community outreach teams conducting rapid STI screening.
• Public health programs and point-of-care testing environments.
• Individuals at increased risk of sexually transmitted infections or those with recent exposure or symptoms.

Not intended for neonatal testing. Ensure the user has appropriate counselling resources and access to confirmatory laboratory testing if needed.

Caution:

• This is a screening test. A reactive (positive) result is presumptive and must be confirmed with recommended laboratory treponemal and/or non-treponemal tests and clinical assessment.
• Do not use beyond the expiry date. Single-use only — do not reuse cassettes or lancets.
• Handle biological samples and used devices as potentially infectious. Follow local biohazard disposal guidelines.
• False negatives can occur in early primary syphilis before antibodies are detectable. Negative results do not exclude infection when clinical suspicion is high.

Storage:

• Store tests at recommended temperature (typically 2–30°C). Avoid freezing and prolonged exposure to heat or direct sunlight.
• Keep the test devices in sealed pouches until use. Do not use damaged or wet cassettes.
